3 Mega Wedding Trends for 2013

Marta Block

Last week we attended Wedding MBA, a conference/trade show for wedding professionals. We were there to make sure wedding professionals knew about the great entertainment that GigMasters can provide for weddings. Also, we like the swag, the parties and of course the great information about what's next on the wedding scene. Rebecca Dolgin, editor of The Knot, shared her thoughts on what the top 3 over-arching trends for 2013 will be.

1. 20's Glamour

This one is a bit of a hold over from last year. But the popularity of shows like Boardwalk Empire and Downton Abbey as well as the soon-to-be-released movie version of The Great Gatsby makes Rebecca think we'll continue to see brides in simple silhouettes with long sleeves. For the more daring bride, flare, glitter, and texture also fit in with a 1920s theme and for the budget bride, afternoon receptions are a perfect fit. If you're looking for 1920s appropriate entertainment think Jazz bands and singers.

2. Ritzy Ranch

Think of the barn weddings of the past few years with a little of the glitz and glamour thrown in. We'll continue seeing a lot of natural wood and wildflowers. Almost any entertainment can fit in with a ranch themed wedding, but we like the idea of small ensembles and sweet music, maybe an a capella group for a cocktail hour performance.

3. Hipster Chic

Luckily, photo booths will still be in use thanks to this trend. Unluckily, that means those overdone mustaches will be as well. Look for suspenders on grooms and groomsmen, bright colors and shorter dresses on bridesmaids. For entertainment think out of the box, circus themes and old-timey ideas like Barbershop Quartets for the cocktail hour.

Among the other trends Rebecca mentioned was the idea that guest entertainment is going to be paramount in couples' thinking. The idea of "our day" is out and the idea of "taking care of our guests" is in. We love this trend!

We'll have more info for you on the top trends of 2013 and what we learned at the conference. But, what do you think of these trends? Are they accurate? Are any of them in your plans?
