Ask the Experts: Flower Girl

Marta Block

Question: I want to have a flower girl at my wedding but I'm wondering if she should walk down the aisle - what if it doesn't go well?

A: Traditionally, the flower girl and ring bearer walk down the aisle right before the bride. If the children in your wedding party are under the age of six, you should make sure to keep a parent, or other adult they know well at the back of the ceremony site to walk down the aisle with them if necessary. With young children, it's always important to expect the unexpected.

If having a perfect, seamless wedding ceremony is important to you, then you should not include young children in your party. Never try and convince or force a young child to participate in your wedding, the results will not be pretty!
