GigMasters Guide To Summer Barbecues

Drew Stoga

What's the best thing about summer? That might seem like a tough question since there are about a million things that make summer so great – everything from ice cream to summer blockbusters – but I would bet dollars to donuts (or more appropriately, hot dogs) that a majority of us can agree on THE best thing about the summer months: the summer barbecue. Whether you are completely landlocked or spend your summers on the beach, lake or some other kind of shore, it’s not really summer until you have hosted or attended a bbq.

Since most of us start warming up the grill in late May for Memorial Day weekend, technically the summer barbecue season starts before summer actually does. While some of us, myself included, are stubborn enough to grill all year round, the months between Memorial Day and Labor Day make up the true summer barbecue season. The good news is you don’t have to be Bobby Flay or Martha Stewart to host a great summer barbecue. It’s really all about getting your friends and family together in the backyard for some quality hang out time. Great food is just the icing on the cake. Whether you are a hesitant barbecuer not completely confident in your grill skills or a certified bbq master - we have a great way to bring your summer barbecue to the next level: live entertainment. (You must have known that’s where we were going with this!)

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – live entertainment makes every event more memorable, especially a barbecue. Sure a boombox with some great summer tunes is enough for the novice party planner but true party animals knows that having a live band, dj or entertainer is the real way to go. For the kids we suggest clowns, balloon twisters, face painters or one of the many other great kids party entertainers you can find on GigMasters. Once you have the kid’s entertained, it’s time to think about the adults. Cover bands are always a great way to go and can entertain just about any crowd. How about a Beach Boys Tribute Band? Bob Marley? Jimmy Buffett? Browse around our tribute and cover band page and you are bound to find someone that your crowd will love. Some other great summer barbecue entertainment: reggae bands, steel drummers, zydeco bands, bluegrass – there really is no end to what you can do with your bbq.

Check out our summer barbecue recipe post for some ideas of what to cook (Yes, we said bbqs are all about getting your friends/family together…but for some of us it’s really all about the food!)
