Hiring Entertainment for Your At-Home Party

Marissa Latshaw

Today I was contacted by a friend whose mom was using GigMasters to find a band to perform at a surprise birthday party. Her mom's question was: how do we know if we should have these people in our home? This is a great question and a legitimate concern when hiring a performer, or any vendor for that matter, to enter your home. Here's what I told her... First off, the reviews you read on GigMasters site are totally authentic in that they can only be left by people who actually booked the entertainer on our site (in other words, the band manager's brother can't leave a glowing review). Further, we don't allow the performers to remove any negative reviews, but they can leave a rebuttal so that you can see both sides of the story. Once you select a few bands (or any type of performer) on our site and fill out the contact form, you will start getting price quotes from each performer for your event.  At this time, you'll also be able to talk to the bands on the phone and email with them until you're comfortable and you've worked out the important details. Here are a couple more things you can do to put  your mind at ease:

  1. Ask if you can see the band perform. They might be playing at a public event and you could pop in to see them. Some bands may even have a private event that they would allow you to attend - with the client's approval of course.
  2. Request some recent references in your area. You can call the references who have booked them and ask about their experience.
  3. Ask about the types of events that they typically perform at. This will give you a sense if they mostly play at bars and are just dabbling in private events. Some do both and do both well - but you probably don't want a band that doesn't have any experience playing at in-home private parties.

As with anything, you'll know when you're comfortable and when you've hit upon the right entertainer for you. Of course, if you need any further help, our Customer Experience Team would gladly answer any questions you have. Feel free to leave your questions and comments below, or contact us directly. I hope this helps not only my friend and her mom - but you too!
