Party themes are a great way to organize and unify an event. They help you think about what you need, save money and research ideas. So, what's a mom to do when she hears, "Can I have a Ballerina, Wonder Woman, Littlest Pet Shop Party?" You say, "Yes!" Because while a mixed theme party will never make it on to ohdeedoh, it will help your daughter express herself, and for kids, that's really the most important part of a party theme. You can have a mixed theme party without driving yourself crazy. The first step is to talk to your son about what the "theme" means to him. Is he just talking about invitations and cups and plates? Is he talking about the entertainment and the activities or is he talking about the party favors and the cake?
If you're making your own invitations, you can easily use cut outs or print elements to create your own mashup invitation, then try and sort through which theme fits best with which party element. Having a mix of themes may actually make entertainment and activities easier to plan. It's hard to think of entertainment that goes along with a superhero theme, but throw in a Littlest Pet Shop or Harry Potter theme and you can bring in an animal trainer or magician respectively. Remember, your child and her friends aren't looking for a perfectly planned party, they're looking for fun!
