NFL Season Kickoff Party

September 5th marks the kickoff of the 2012 NFL season and football fans everywhere are certainly counting down the days until the gridiron action starts. Many serious football fans out there may be planning a get together or game watch to cheer on their favorite team during their season debut. If you are going to celebrate this pigskin pastime – you may as well get creative and do it in style. We’ve put together a round-up of some fun, NFL inspired ideas for your season kickoff party.

You don’t need much for decorations, unless you really want to go all out. You could start with party supplies that support your favorite team. Oriental Trading has party packs that include plates, silverware, cups and napkins with your team logos and colors.  Set the buffet table with a fun, football field tablecloth from Shindigz. Adding a few football pennants and foam fingers would let guests feel like they are really cheering in the stadium! What about getting some mini foam footballs for your guests to toss around the room? Football shaped mylar balloons would also be a simple decoration that you could use throughout your party set-up. Make sure to ask guests to wear their team colors or gear – that will automatically make your party more festive! Now, let’s get to the yummy stuff. If you are feeling ambitious when creating the menu, you have to try to make a stadium out of food. Sounds a little strange right? Well, yea, it does – but take a peek below to check out just how awesome the end result looks. Now that’s a serious appetizer!

If you are more inclined to keep things simple – chips, pretzels, dip, nachos, wings and burgers make for a great football feast. Occasions Online also has some fun football snack ideas, like football shaped crackers and this super creative watermelon helmet fruit bowl. Whatever you do, just make sure you have lots of food for the game – your guests will work up an appetite cheering their team on to victory!

Hostess With The Mostess featured some fabulous football party cupcakes a while back. The football designed cupcakes are definitely a touchdown in my book! I also love the hamburger cupcake – perfect for a tailgating party, or simple game watch.

Team color cupcakes would also be great if you really want to support your team. Cupcakes are tasty and fun to create, but my new favorite frosted party must-have would have to be cake pops. They are delicious, and don’t make you feel quite as guilty for indulging. Try your hand at making your own football cake pops. Your guests will surely be impressed.
