It's no surprise that the 1920s have made a roaring comeback this year. Movies, fashion and even the occasional Hollywood party have all succumb to the flapper-esque theme. Here at GigMasters, our clients are no exception! We've seen some nifty 1920s themed gigs this year, but we had to stop and share this anniversary party.
When asked why the couple, Celena and Rob, chose this theme, they shared that they wanted a fun first anniversary party where guests could dress up. The glitz and glam of the 1920s was the perfect fit! The pair truly brought the era to life by hosting their celebration on an authentic 1920s steam boat.
The Virginia V was built in 1921, and continues to serve as a wedding venue and charter ship. In fact, the couple used this same venue for their wedding reception a year earlier! "We loved the location, and it had a unique history," Celena told us. She had so much fun planning her wedding that, as soon as it was done, she booked the ship again and began planning the anniversary party! Celena added that the venue's nature keeps parties fairly contained, so guests have no choice but to mix and mingle - a great way to keep the atmosphere lively!
Another way to ensure guests stay entertained? Hire a swingin' band! Celena and Rob found Swing Band Half-Pack Live!!! (Seattlem, Washington) here on GigMasters. Not only was their musical sound a great fit for the theme, but band member Rachael followed up the request with a personal email and phone call. The couple certainly appreciated that the band went the extra mile! To make sure their set list would be true to the era, Half-Pack Live practiced 1920s specific tunes like Chicago, Cabaret and Five-Foot-Two Eyes of Blue. They even arrived dressed to the nines in period-appropriate clothing! In fact, Celena said that everyone's costumes were the best form of decoration. In case guests forgot to don their most dapper attire, the hostess brought beads, headbands, boas and other small accessories. They doubled as both table decor and emergency costume embellishments!
If you want to throw a 1920s party that would make Gatsby himself want an invite, Celena has some great tips! She suggests purchasing affordable props that can double as both decor and last minute costume. Customized printed pieces, like table cards and signs, are another inexpensive way to contribute to the theme. Finally, the hostess stresses the importance of music! Celena insists, "Live music is always a hit and really takes your party up a notch, enhancing the mood and the guests' enjoyment." A good, professional band will work with you to make your theme a success, just like Half-Pack Live!!! Start your search here.
