Wedding Fitness: Dance Down the Aisle

Bethridge

Good news if you’re a couch potato who is trying to lose weight for the big day. Just flex that pointer finger on the channel button until you reach Dancing With the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance?!  That should get you in shape, right? No? Still, studies show that dancing can burn over 260 calories per hour--a burn rate equivalent to a fast walk. If regularly practiced, dancing can lead to a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure and improved cholesterol levels, all signs of improved health and fitness.... MORE

Just when you thought this summer’s weddings couldn’t get anymore outrageous, leave it to a Croatian heiress to steal the show! Kardashian Wedding Lessons for You

Bethridge

Despite the degree of lavishness last weekend’s Kardashian wedding achieved, there’s a lot about it that could have been predicted. For example, was it a big surprise that the bride had more costume changes than Diana Ross? Not really. Should anyone be shocked that the reality TV cameras rolled the entire time and many elements of the wedding were (*cough*) sponsored? Nope—par for the course, really. ... MORE

Celebrity Summer Wedding Season: Still!

Bethridge

Just when you thought it couldn't get any hotter (in theory it should actually BE hotter in mid-August but I'm talking pop culturally/wedding wise...) this weekend set off some serious wedding bells. The View co-hosts Sherri Shephard and Joy Behar both took trips down the aisle, as did life-of-the-1999-party Tara Reid...hours after her engagement!... MORE

Is this THE Summer of Celebrity Weddings?

Bethridge

Dare I say that this is shaping up to the be the wedding summer of the century? What with the Royals (double-dose) and Kim Kardashian about the set the aisle a-flame (that’s what I hear will happen, she will actually ignite to be the ultimate “hot bride”), you’re probably dizzy from all the celebrity wedding news reports out there. It’s a regular tornado-of-tulle.... MORE

Celebrity Vow Renewals are the New Celebrity Weddings

Bethridge

I’m not sure how I feel about vow renewals. Being three years past my own big fat wedding, it certainly seems too early to consider, but there are so many things I’d do differently, it’s tempting. I’m in support of renewals at big milestone anniversaries, but can only guess what would possess someone to renew one big wedding, with another big wedding less than a year apart. Perhaps too much money? :)... MORE

Justin Bieber, Wedding Crasher

Bethridge

A girl can dream: Justin Bieber was walking with his girlfriend on the shore of Malibu when he heard his hit, “One Less Lonely Girl” playing karaoke-style from nearby. The Biebs decided to make his presence known (can’t you just picture this: his ears perk up; hey, that’s my song!) and turned an everyday Joe (actually Rob and Jeanine McCool)’s wedding into a celebrity-fueled-party-to-remember.... Nick Lachey and the Secret Wedding Song

Bethridge

The feeling that we’re all feeling of “get all the loose ends tied up” before the long 4th of July weekend apparently applies to celebrity weddings, as much as the stack of papers on my desk. Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz pissed off the paparazzi by taking the plunge last week after only knowing each other for about a year.... MORE

Father of the Bride and Liz Taylor

Bethridge

Father’s day always makes me think of one of my favorite chick-flicks: Father of the Bride. When I got engaged, my dad and I watched it together and when we both had tears in our eyes, we both blamed it on imaginary dust in the air or something else in our eye. Ah, bonding. In honor of this Sunday and this very good movie, let’s take a look at three Father/Daughter wedding movies.... MORE

Kim Kardashian...Impersonator?

Bethridge

You can love her or hate her (or not care!) but Kim Kardashian is determined you’ll hear about her…and her summer wedding. Not planning undue attention on this blog, but musically, I think there’s something to point out. Kim’s told a few celebrity weekly magazines (or “a source” did) that she plans to ask friend and The Voice co-host Christina Aguilera to sing the “first dance” song for her and fiancé Kris Humphries.... The Do Not Play List & Bob Seger

Bethridge

NPR had novelist and The New Yorker cartoonist Adrian Tomine on their series “In Your Ear” to talk about his favorite musical moments from his wedding, as illustrated in his book Scenes from an Impending Marriage, in which he shares his own wedding planning. NPR and The New Yorker? Gee, that sounds like a homework assignment party.... MORE

Rap Music Weddings, a Celebrity Wedding Trend?

Bethridge

Nothing says big money British wedding like a Snoop Dogg performance…does it? Well, apparently it does! Though you might not peg them for adoring fans, turns out the likes of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and model Kate Moss have all requested the California-born, endo-smoking rapper to perform for their big day. When asked why he couldn’t perform at last month’s tiny little affair known as “the Royal wedding,” Snoop explained he had a prior pressing engagement of “a barbecue to attend.”... MORE

When Musicians Marry...

Bethridge

What happens when musicians marry? That question is set to be answered again and again this year. Of course they’re just like “us” (they get coffee, they get massages for their pets ... ) but do they involve their own music at their weddings? I suppose it’s like any talented person with their own wedding – you could design your own dress or bake your own cake – but do you want to?... MORE

Leann Rimes, Steal Her Wedding Idea

Bethridge

Now that last week’s wedding-of-the-decade is behind us, we can bring our focus back to American royalty, celebrities. I always think of spring as wedding season. It turns out there's a good reason for this, back in the 1950’s and 60’s when the population was surging and women were increasingly holding jobs, June became a popular wedding month so teachers (then seen as a job for women) could enjoy a honeymoon. Sorry, I digress.... MORE

Royal Wedding Wrap Up

Bethridge

By now, we’ve all seen the history-making photos – the dress, the kiss, the hats.  But what did these choices say about the couple? Because I can’t get these thoughts out soon enough, I’m listening to two biddies (that’s a British word, right?) talk about how they wished Kate’s dress had “more glamour.”... MORE

The National posted a cool article this week about all of the different musicians who will play some part in next week’s Royal Wedding (not hundreds, more like thousands) -- everyone from the band playing the processional to the female cymbal player who will be one of many in street parades surrounding the big day.... Bethridge

The Royal wedding freight train is just around the bend and it’s difficult to browse the web, read a paper or watch TV without hearing something about April 29th. And today is supposed to mark an unveiling (pun) of a crucial wedding detail, that will indefinitely impact future weddings—royal and otherwise—for years to come: the title track of George Michael’s song-present.  I know, I know what you’re thinking—“jitterbug.” But no!...
