The Golden Globe nominations were announced yesterday. A lot of people look to the Golden Globes as a forecaster for the Oscars. I look to them as a forecaster of wedding trends.
Don’t believe me? Wait until June and see if these predictions come true:
The King’s Speech, a royal costume drama led the pack withthe most nominations. Combine this with an actual royal wedding in 2011, and you definitely have an increase in elegant, regal affairs complete with multi-piece bands, dancing, and of course, beautiful dresses.
GigMasters members Swingigan Big Band (formerly known as The Baytones) of Saginaw, Michigan recently told us that thanks to shows like Glee and Dancing with the Stars, they’ve seen an increase in bookings. Nominations for the dance-centered movies Black Swan and Burlesque, as well as the TV show Glee also point to dancing continuing to take center stage at weddings. But, look for lots of brides and grooms to cede the spotlight and wow their guests with performances by Cabaret troupes and other variety acts.
Youth and social networking are on top with nominations forThe Social Network, Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, Mia Kunis, Elisabeth Moss, and Lea Michelle. Look for an increase in unusual ways to use Twitter, Facebook, and smart phones in wedding planning as well as a fresh-faced youthful approach to wedding day hair and makeup.
What do you think? What trends do you see coming in 2011?
