With ten years of experience playing in churches as well as four years served as a wedding photographer, Ms. Lemmon is extremely comfortable working professionally in event settings. She offers a diverse set of available repertoire and is also happy to accommodate custom music requests from her clients. BIOGRAPHY: Recognized as an "informed, intelligent, focused, and very artistic" musician by acclaimed flutist Bonita Boyd, flutist Kate Lemmon enjoys a developing musical career both as a soloist and an ensemble/chamber musician. As a second-year graduate student of Paula Robison at New England Conservatory in Boston, Ms. Lemmon performs regularly with the New England Conservatory Philharmonia and Wind Ensemble, and she has been featured as a soloist with the latter. In 2012 she joined Boston's acclaimed Discovery Ensemble, described as "one of the pre-eminent chamber orchestras in the country," and she also performs as an extra musician with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. Ms. Lemmon has been named a semi-finalist for the New World Symphony, and a finalist for Principal Flutist of the Lexington Philharmonic. In addition to performances of concerti with both the San Antonio Symphony and the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio, Ms. Lemmon regularly performs in recitals and competitions. Most recently, she took first prize at the 2013 Byron Hester Flute Competition. She also took third prize in the 2012 New York Flute Club Competition and first prize at the Rochester Flute Association's 2011 Young Artist Competition. Ms. Lemmon was recently chosen as one of two nominees from New England Conservatory for the Harvard Musical Association's Arthur W. Foote Prize. In 2012, Ms. Lemmon earned her Bachelor of Music degree, Performer's Certificate, and Arts Leadership Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. A regular performer with the Eastman Philharmonia and Eastman Wind Ensemble, Kate collaborated with artists such as Renee Fleming, Joshua Bell, and Branford Marsalis. In 2011, Ms. Lemmon was invited by conductor Mark Scatterday to record Stravinsky's Octet for Winds, which was released by Avie Records in February 2013. When school is not in session, Ms. Lemmon spends her summers at various music festivals. In 2013, following a fellowship at Colorado College Music Festival, she toured Central America for six weeks as a member of the Youth Orchestra of the Americas. In 2012, she was selected as an instrumental fellow for the Aspen Music Festival's American Academy of Conducting, and she will return on a full scholarship for the 2014 season. In earlier summers, she has attended the Eastern Music Festival, Cactus Pear Music Festival, and Interlochen Arts Camp. In the summer of 2011, her performance of Stravinsky's Petrouchka earned her a review as an “outstanding soloist” by CVNC Arts Journal. She is greatly indebted to her former teachers Bonita Boyd, Tallon Perkes, and Rebecca Gilbert.
