Featuring original material as well as select covers that fall under the umbrella term Americana, The Bad Popes play everything from western swing in the manner of Bob Wills, to rock in the spirit of the Allman Brothers, to straight up country material like Hank Williams, Sr., to funky stuff like the Talking Heads. In the course of an evening you will hear these styles and more, as the pedal steel and lead guitar soar harmoniously over the groove of the band.
All veterans of the South Carolina music scene, The Bad Popes have many years of performing experience, playing at bars, festivals, fundraisers, weddings, and parties from the mountains to the coast. The band has five permanent members, with Mike Bagwell on pedal steel and dobro, Joe Cash on drums, Jef Chandler playing guitar and singing, Chris Garrett on bass, and Charles Hedgepath on lead guitar, mandolin and vocals. Though the full band usually performs with electric instruments, various members of the band frequently perform acoustically as a duo, trio or a four-piece. The full band is frequently joined by their friend Robert Goss, whose soulful vocals add another dimension to the band.
With their wide variety of material, experience, and adaptability, The Bad Popes are a good fit for all types of events -- corporate functions, weddings, rehearsals, art expositions, festivals, oyster roasts, private parties, and house concerts.
