About Vendor

Bill is available for solo/strolling violin events, and also within groups focusing upon Classical, Eclectic Jazz (Standards, Bossa, Swing, New Orleans), Gypsy Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, and Cape Breton/Contra and Irish musical styles, with or without vocals. Whether soloing on Sweet Georgia Brown, accompanying speedy dancers on the "Wizard's Walk", or weaving through the intricacies of the Brandenburg Concertos, Bill Nixon plays the music you want! Gifted with perfect pitch and the resultant ability to instantaneously replicate any song heard, Bill Nixon has spent his life learning and creating a multifaceted diversity of sound, from the sophisticated sounds of Classical and Jazz violin, to the down and dirty rumblings of Southern style fiddle. Whether it's as first stand with the Rose Tree Pops Orchestra, fiddling down Bluegrass with his band, the Goose Creek Pioneers, or channeling Herbie Hancock at the 23rd Street Café Jazz Jam at the Manayunk Brewery, Bill's mastery of the four and five string violin never fails to delight and amaze listeners. Bill began piano lessons at age 5, violin at age 7, and by high school had mastered bass guitar, tuba, sousaphone, and synthesizer. With violin as his primary instrument, he studied Classical with Edgar Ortenberg (Settlement Music School) and Dolly Koritzer (Romanian violinist), Gypsy Jazz with Tim Kliphaus and Fiona Monbet influenced by Stephane Grappelli (at Django in June), and Roots Folk genres with Jay Ungar and Molly Mason (Ashokan) and Cajun, David Greeley (Mamou Playboys). Bill has also played and recorded with a wide repertoire of artists, including internationally renowned Jazz pianist Mark Kramer, Kenny Gates, The Hot Club of Philadelphia, guitarist/vocalist Andrea Carlson, Kirtan artist Yvette Om, with whom he plays Living Beyond Breast cancer's annual Reach and Raise event on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum and a wide variety of Cape Breton/Contra dance bands.
