freon cool is a band consisting of 3 life time musicians who have been playing around the KC area for well over 20 years. That being said, when we got together to establish a "sound" it was much harder to do than we thought it would be. Today's music is sort of all over the place, with new genres popping up in Rolling Stone left and right every couple of months. It sounds kind of cliche, but we really did not want to be put in a conventional box, but rather wanted our musical reputation to not necessarily precede us via the genre label.
We choose improvisation as a way of expressing our musical language. When we get on stage, we are having a conversation and are inviting you to participate as an active listener! We may have some preconceived notions about where we are heading, but opinions change during the course of the discussion and so does the sound. What starts out as soft, quiet moment may evolve into a thunderous argumentative soundscape, We just don't know, but it's all good.
However, take heart as there are some consistencies within our music. Strong melodic themes are interwoven throughout the sonic landscape. Polyrhythms are known to appear as new opinions from time to time. The music evolves to fit our mood and the audience around us.
For freon cool, it really is all about the music. No gimmicks, no ulterior motives, no airs of importance, just open-ended music. What could be better than that?
