OUR MUSIC: Clarinetist Evan Christopher's acoustic duos and trios present classic New Orleans music and romantic standards with luminous elegance for select occasions. Devoid of clichés, caricatures, costumes or histrionics, our music makes the most special moments of any occasion more meaningful and memorable. Within our extensive repertoire, requests are not only welcome but encouraged, and we relish opportunities to to elevate experiences such as receptions, ceremonies, or special dances.
If needed, a small portable P.A. system is available but we do not use amplification that compromises an acoustic aesthetic. Our audio and video samples reflect several combinations that share the earthy elegance that distinguishes us from most other bands.
ARTIST BIO: Anchored in the musical vocabulary created by early Creole clarinetists such as Sidney Bechet, Omer Simeon, and Barney Bigard, Evan Christopher celebrates the legacy of the New Orleans clarinet style that evolved into early "jazz" music. Charismatic and versatile, he was drawn to New Orleans from his native California in 1994 by the rich cultural landscape. Critics remarking on his expressiveness and intimate approach have coined his style "close-encounter music" (NEW YORK TIMES) and have called his respect for the music traditions of New Orleans, "a triumph, joining the present seamlessly to a glorious past." (THE OBSERVER, UK). After being based in the Crescent City for over 25 years, Mr. Christopher moved to New York City.
