Michael Gold is a San Francisco-based saxophonist who has been leading and playing in some of the most creative jazz groups in the Bay Area for many years. Drawing on a roster of first-rate professional musicians, Michael can assemble various instrumental combos (duos, trios, quartets, quintets, even little big bands) to suit any occasion, mood, and venue. We can play cool background music for an intimate private party or dinner function. We can turn out sophisticated swing and infectious Latin rhythms for dancing. And we can do the high-octane, get-'em-on-their-feet-jumping-and-celebrating thing for more raucous bashes. You like bebop, ballads, blues, or funk? We cover all jazz styles and we're happy to customize our play list to harmonize perfectly with your event. - - - - - BRIEF BIO (in case you're looking for more info about Michael Gold) The son of arranger, big band leader, and RCA recording artist Marty Gold, Michael grew up listening to the tuneful standards of such songwriters as the Gershwins, Cole Porter, and Rodgers and Hart. As a result, melody has always been at the center of his playing style. Michael studied saxophone and improvisation with East Coast greats Joe Allard and David Liebman as well as the Bay Area's well-known saxophonist and jazz educator Jim Grantham. Michael can be heard in trios, quartets, quintets, and big bands around San Francisco, interpreting the compositions of classic and contemporary jazz artists such as Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk, Joe Henderson, Kenny Barron, Chucho Valdés, and Pat Metheny, to name a few. Whether the style is bebop, bossas, ballads, swing, or Afro-Cuban, his music always makes a clear connection to those earlier melodies from Tin Pan Alley and Broadway.
