Getting to Know
Bob E. Ruglass
His love for music began before he hit his early teens.
His passion grew as he formed an intimate relationship with his High School auditorium piano.
His talent evolved while he spent most of his time teaching himself how to form chords and melodies.
His style was developed from such an inherent and natural way of learning.
His versatility in music is unquestionable.
Thus placing him on a list of the Caribbean most highly respected musicians.
Although he established himself as a brand playing in almost every hot venue on the island of Jamaica,(VIP,Sombrero,Playboy,Appollo Clubs etc.), his journey to North America paved the way for his musical future. For several years Montreal became his home where he honed his talent. A city where he exhausted himself playing in acclaimed Night Clubs and Jazz Lounges. A time where he realized that composing and recording music was his dream. A place where he recorded his first 45 RPM with Boot Records in the Seventies, consequently becoming the foundation for his musical aspirations.
Eventually as the music and political scene changed in Quebec, his ultimate decision to move to Toronto allowed him to be introduced to different musicians of diverse genres. He has had countless and remarkable encounters with many of Jazz top performers; Jimmy Smith, Herbie Hancock, and Branford & Wynton Marsalis to name a few. Until this day, his most memorable moment was when he experienced the presence of the legendary, Miles Davis. This in turn inspired the Jazz pianist to compose his infamous piece titled, A Touch of Miles, which debuted on his first independent album, Clear the Tracks.
His performances with renowned artists such as Jackie Richardson, Liberty Silver, Joe Sealy, Wade O. Brown, Allan Frew and Eugene Clark, are a few worth mentioning. His sacrifices and contributions to music in North America have made him one of Canada recipients of the prestigious Bob Marley Award.
Now Bob E. Ruglass graces his audience with the fifth addition to his album catalogue and his latest jazz piano solo album, Beyond Omega: the electric grand piano experience. When Bob E. is not promoting his album at local cafe and bookstores, one can find him engaging crowds when performing alongside his trio.
Don't just experience the man, fall in love with his sound and live his passion for Jazz.
