Is it rock, blues, jazz, or all of the above. Puzzle Palace has gone through several transformations under band leader Lenny Charles. Founded 4 years ago with former Spyro Gyra Bassist Kim Stone and Al Green's touring organist Tomas McClellan the band recorded it's first album 'No Secrets Here' in Colorado. The album is instrumental featuring blazing solos catchy melodies and poly rythyms. Due mostly to logistics and travel, Lenny decided to recreate the project back in N.J....with a twist. The twist is to add a female vocalist in the vein of Billy Holiday, Amy Winehouse, and Mamma Cass. After a extensive search Lenny discovered Dana Holland at the famous Robins Nest in nearby Linden. A perfect addition to new arrangements of blues, jazz, and rock classics. Dana is an integral part of the ensemble adding freely with her intense vocal presence. The N.J. group features Joe Nevolo on Drums and Philadelphia bassist Corey Rader. Joe ,who is the owner of Big Beat Music, may be the most intense and most versatile drummer in N.J. with many album and touring credits. His solos are definitely something to see. Just a few of Joe's credits include recording with Pat Travers, Greg Howe, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Corey travels from north Philly and brings a jazz and rock approach with a fresh look and feel. Corey is equally fluent slapping out funk on his 6 string Ibanez or laying out jazz standards on his upright. Lenny, a graduate and former teacher at Musicians Institute in Ca, is not your average guitar slinger. Besides the usual blazing solos and well voiced chords the guitar is highly modified and controls a multi timberal synth. What you see is not what you hear. Authentic acoustic piano, strings, trumpets ,flutes ect. show up in the soundscape and are featured in solos throughout the show. Videos of this latest ensemble are all on you tube including the latest Bitter End show in NYC. Since the NJ based group is new ,many dates are still available.
