When fame came knocking on Darryl Tookes' door in the early 1990's, he sent it away. Instead, he moved to the countryside and devoted his time and energy to developing his sound and his vision while raising a family in the multicultural community of Stamford, Connecticut. An artist in exile, Tookes ventured inward to create underground in the very shadow of New York, the epicenter of international culture and art.

What poured from his heart during this time were the songs of an ordinary man questing a universal vision on the edge of a new cultural epoch.

A prolific sideman, journeyman Tookes has worked with a diverse spectrum of recording and performing artists while exploring multiple genres and idioms. From early mentors like Maurice White and Larry Dunn of Earth, Wind & Fire, Todd Rundgren to modern icons Stevie Wonder and James Taylor, Elton John and Donald Fagen. Darryl’s professional experience includes: Dave Grusin, Quincy Jones, George Benson, Sting, Chris Botti, Dave Valentin, Gerry Mulligan, Bobby McFerrin, Patricia Kaas, Carmen McRae, Leonard Bernstein, Patti Austin, Roberta Flack, Ramsey Lewis, Nancy Wilson, Buster Williams, Luther Vandross, Laurie Anderson, Chris McNulty, Chuck Loeb, Howard Levy, Joe Beck, Juan Gabriel, Carly Simon, Aretha Franklin, Korn, Blondie, Diana Ross, Patti Labelle and Chic.

Darryl’s partnership with the great pianist and orchestrator Joseph Joubert has become central to the evolution of this musical journey.

Today Tookes re-emerges on the scene with his vision complete in an entirely new sound arising from his self-inflicted isolation. He has brilliantly honed his distinctive style into an entirely new non-linear form of music incorporating universal myth with personal narrative. Expanding his romantic ballads to a new form of multilayered storytelling, Tookes reaches deep into the universal myths guiding humanity during this critical time of cultural transition.

From his seminal debut hit “Lifeguard” this Modern Renaissance Man returns to center stage with his new band and their brilliant new CD – Journey To The Hieros Gamos.

Rodolfo Zuniga was born in San Jose, Costa Rica. At the age of 19 he was awarded a full scholarship to attend Florida International University in Miami. In 1999 he enrolled as a jazz performance major and quickly earned the position of the drummer for the concert jazz band at FIU. In this chair he performed with such guest artists as Michael Brecker, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Sam Rivers, Diego Urcola, and Kevin Mahogany. While attending FIU Rodolfo was heard by the Maynard Ferguson Big Bop Nouveau Band tour manager and offered the position of drummer with the band to tour the US.
Currently Rodolfo is active in the local Florida scene as sideman with people like Gary Campbell, Michael Gerber, Alex Norris, Phil Strange, Chip McNeill, Mike Orta, Othello Molineaux, Bob Grabowski and Kevin Mahogany. He is in high demand as a studio musician, as well as an active sideman. This drum virtuoso is also leader in his own right. Most recently, he participated in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C in 2005. With this group, he performed in four concerts at the Kennedy Center, as well as a small tour of the U.S. As the leader of his own Quintet, he has traveled through the U.S. and South America, and most recently finished a weeklong residency at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. Rodolfo graduated with a Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance at FIU in May of 2005.

From the very first moment that Rodolfo played the music of Darryl Tookes he recognized a kindred spirit, a soul mate, a sacred marriage. Tookes immediately knew that he had encountered a rare drummer of extraordinary technique who played with absolute abandon and total command – the perfect complement. Fire and ice. Wind and rain. Rodolfo Zuniga is a monster!

Rolando Grooscors was born in Caracas, Venezuela. At age ten he started to play the typical Venezuelan stringed instrument called the cuatro, before discovering the Spanish guitar or “Nylon string" guitar as it is also known.

From very young Rolando was influenced by different types of music. Latin, Brazilian, Jazz and Flamenco. These and many other styles contribute to the versatility he displays today. When Rolando was 14 years old, he moved to Canada where he lived in both Toronto and Ottawa. It was there that he studied classical guitar. Captivated by Flamenco guitar, he also took classes with Professor Leopoldo Martí Aguilar for two years. After which time they began performing at different universities and cultural venues in Canada. At 17 years old, Rolando discovered the electric guitar, performed with several rock groups, and began experimenting with fusion jazz.

Rolando’s love of Brazilian music motivated him to develop a Jazz/Fusion style heavily influenced by that most passionate expression, infused with Latin and Jazz. Presently one of the most in-demand guitar players in Miami, he recently completed his first CD, “Reflejos” (Reflections) in which he displays a wide variety of styles and concepts. Affectionately known as “The Preacher” Rolando’s harmonic and melodic imagery captures the essence of musical freedom, spirit and sensuality.

Mark Curtis Beverley was born and raised in Miami, Florida. After attending Miami Dade College, Mark received a scholarship to the University of Miami, where he majored in Jazz Performance and earned a Bachelor of Music degree.
Currently, Mark resides in South Florida and performs regularly on both upright and electric bass, in a wide variety of musical settings. He is comfortable playing in many different styles -- Jazz, R&B / Funk, Gospel, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Classical and Pop, to name a few. Mark has performed with notable artists such as: Eliane Elias, Kevin Mahogany, Lisa Kemp and Carmen Lundy. He also received a Down Beat award in 2003.

An unconventional approach to bass playing, Mark was initially self-taught, with a focus on utilizing the upright bass in a non-traditional manner. Not wanting to be tied down to the typical expectations of an acoustic bass and its limitations, Mark forged a new style in a direction all his own. A method of his own creation. Upon mastering this art form, Mark returned to the formal study of music to continue his mission of becoming a perfectly well rounded bassist. With classical training under his belt, Brother Mark returned to his experimental roots.

This is where magic happens … a chance encounter with Rolando “The Preacher” Grooscors in a music store led to Mark’s introduction to Tookes. The timing was fortuitous, as he has emerged with heartfelt, soulful playing.
