A band of renegades they are, these Kousin Krispy folk! According to the dictionary, being a renegade means behaving in a rebelliously unconventional manner. And behave or, more accurately, mis-behave they do! They, like their proto-type band SCOTS (Southern Culture on the Skids), misbehave all over the place . . . and especially on stage and in performance. Their shenanigans evoke a trance-like state, much like the meditative space attained by a truly Zen consciousness. Whether, as we listen, we are variously called to ponder the advantages of toothlessness, the slippery yum of somethin’ like Banana Puddin’, the behavior patterns of the common household fly, the social stigma of stinky, unwashed feet, or the glorious freedom of taking your home with you everywhere you go, we revel in the celebration of what makes us truly human, as truly trashy as that can sometimes be. isn’t it incumbent upon us to not take ourselves too seriously, but to look with a loving, perceptive eye on what makes this strange and quarky life worth living? Kousin Krispy is a tribute band to SCOTS, and many of their wonderful tunes are lovingly and faithfully rendered, so the fresh, irreverent sound comes across, intact. My House Has Wheels, Put Your Shoes Back On, Greenback Fly, Put Your Teeth Up On the Windowsill, all capture the essence of the trailer trash soul. And we, who may or may not be currently living in a double or single wide, relate! These gems, excavated intact, from the common soil, celebrate the everyday in a way that effectively transports us, as we listen (and dance!), to a place of respite from this increasingly challenging world we call home. Though most of the material is homogenously grown from a distinct genre (the trailer trash mystique), it’s also a delicious blend of many musical styles. This melting pot feature further contributes to the way it all goes down so easy!
