Station 1201 Variety Band from Olney, MD

Station 1201 has headlined large events throughout the region including the Northern Virginia Fall Brewfest and the the annual St. Patrick's Day event at Reston Town Center four years in a row. They've been an institution at Washington Nationals games since 2008, where they've entertained baseball fans inside the stadium and played to huge post-game crowds at The Fairgrounds. They've been part of many outdoor summer concert series, such as Yards Park and Golden Triangle in DC, Rio and City of Gaithersburg in addition to countless club dates and private events. The group's captivating live show has not gone unnoticed among music fans in the DC region: Station 1201 has been honored with 2nd place in Washington City Paper's "Best Local Band" poll, and has been featured twice in On Tap magazine. Their original music can be heard on DC101's Local Lix and Phoenix Internet Radio. Station 1201 first came together in 2007 in the DC/Baltimore suburb of Gaithersburg, Maryland when founding vocalist/front man Shawn Hillman met guitarist/vocalist Kenny Day through a music ad. Both were veterans of the local music scene, and singer/songwriters who wanted to balance great original music with a unique and eclectic batch of covers spanning five decades and a wide range of influences. From the beginning it was clear they didn't fit the mold of your average cover band. First of all, they can play just about anything from LL Cool J to Metallica and Bob Marley to Garth Brooks and it all blends seamlessly. They set themselves apart with their song selection from current hits to timeless classics, unique arrangements and clever mash-ups that offer a fresh approach that's energetic, fun and always unpredictable. Tight vocal harmonies have always been a trademark of the group, but now they've got four singers, who trade leads and harmonize beautifully together. In the modern age of drum programmers, DJ songwriters, computer musicians, sequenced pre-recorded tracks and auto-tuned singers, a truly "live" band is becoming an endangered species. Station 1201 is traditional that way. There's no gimmicks with this band either. No pyrotechnics or costumes, just great live music that doesn't discriminate. Their variety offers something for everyone, and their engaging performances pack the dance floor and captivate audiences in any setting, from bars to festivals, corporate events, parties and weddings.
