Standing on Wood is a three-piece variety band from Maysville, the cultural centrifuge of northern Kentucky. Started in May of 2011, they have played at venues ranging from country clubs, to city concert series, to the Kentucky State Fair. They are grounded in the music of classic rock groups such as Queen, Led Zeppelin, and the Beatles, but also perform covers of artists such as Jason Mraz, Counting Crows, and Maroon 5. Their original works draw heavily from these pop/rock artists, with additional influences from blues, country, and classical music. Their standard instrumentation is composed of Duncan Wood on guitar, Chanslor Gallenstein on bass and lead vocals, and Nicholas Reece on drums, but other instruments have included keyboard/piano, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, and flute. Instrumental variety is common in their sets, and they may bring seven or eight instruments when appropriate for the venue. They also make a point of bringing variety to their show in other ways, such as their genres and styles. In any case, they always bring material that will engage any crowd.
