About
For over ten years, Jessy Carolina has been performing throughout the NYC area and around the world. Carolina covers a wide array of genres from folk, to blues, to jazz. Currently, Carolina is the leader of two jazz bands that are based out of NYC.
She is working on a 2016 European tour with her jazz buddies from across the Atlantic, Old Fish Jazz Band.

Jessy Carolina & The Hot Mess is a New York City based traditional jazz band. The group, formerly know as the Bill Murray Experience, formed in 2008. Over the years, the band has performed throughout the East coast and has participated in many organizations that include The Jazz Foundation of America, Music Under New York, Music That Heals, Healing Arts Initiative, and Make Music New York. Early on, the band was featured on The Simpson's 20th Anniversary Special and most recently, Jessy Carolina's musical performances were featured in the video game Bioshock Infinite. In 2012, the band traveled overseas and performed in Germany, Denmark, Israel, Ireland, and Romania.

The Hot Mess is a six piece band. Lead vocalist Jessy Carolina also plays washboard and percussion. Jerron "Blind Boy" Paxton plays banjo, piano, and also warbles. Jordan Hyde is the band's guitarist, and Jay Sanford is the band's bassist. The horn section doubles up with Carolina's husband, Mario J. Maggio on clarinet and tenor saxophone. Satoru Ohashi rounds it out on trumpet and trombone.

Holy Crow Jazz Band is a New York City based ensemble that specializes in American traditional jazz music from the 1920s throughout the 1930s. The band's repertoire includes many instrumental numbers that were written or were inspired by great musicians of the past such as King Oliver, Kid Ory, Bix Beiderbecke, Red Nichols, and The Original Dixieland Jazz Band, just to name a few. Lead vocals by Jessy Carolina are reminiscent of the antiquated musical stylings of Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, and Ma Rainey. The band's stompy and lively sound can be attributed to its heavy horns and solid rhythm section lead by Carolina's husband, Mario J. Maggio (clarinet and tenor saxophone). On trumpet is Tin Pan's vivacious Jesse Selengut. The boisterous Tim Vaughn plays trombone, and proudly known as “TubaJoe” Joe Exley booms on tuba. Proving to be the important foundation of the band are Adam Brisbin on guitar and Curt Garey on drums, with occasional washboarding by Jessy Carolina. Holy Crow Jazz Band sets the stage for dancing and all within its company for a grand old time.

Both bands can also do smaller group performances for cocktail parties, dinner dances, weddings, etc. We are happy to tailor an ensemble to fit the needs of your event. You can expect the highest degree of professionalism from our experienced, well-educated musicians. Our fees are commensurate with our experience, and can be adapted to client needs.
