Cheryl woke in the night with lyrics she couldn't take credit for — a divine gift that carried a story too important to keep quiet. That moment planted the seed of something that would become genez: a family band rooted in faith, forged through hardship, and committed to the belief that music is one of God's most powerful storytelling tools. Genez is Faith-Rooted Family Americana — a musical fusion of Americana, Southern Gospel, Country, and Soft Rock, with occasional a cappella arrangements that leave audiences captivated. Their sound honors the past while looking forward to the future, and every performance blends instrumental skill, vocal harmony, and genuine heart. Dirk ("Dad Z") is a Los Angeles native who grew up immersed in music through his mother's teaching background, absorbing everything from barbershop harmony to classical composition to the art of comedy. His tenor-to-bass vocal range and trombone solos have graced stages from Southern Gospel concerts across the U.S. to performances in Australia, and even backup vocals for Barry Manilow. As the family's MC, Dirk brings the same humor and charm that made him a standout with the Watchmen Quartet — turning every genez performance into an experience audiences remember. Cheryl ("Mom Z") is a Texas native whose musical roots run deep. She is the granddaughter of Doug Bragg of The Western Drifters, and her journey in music began as a young child in the studio alongside Agape Force and folk legend Barry McGuire. By age 13, she was already touring North America with The Singing Bragg Family, weaving Gospel and folk into the hearts of audiences coast to coast. Today, Cheryl is the creative heartbeat of genez — a progressive banjoist, guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, and the one who first heard the music in the dream. D-3, the younger Dirk, carries his father's smooth vocal style behind the drum kit, providing the rhythmic foundation that holds the family's sound together with power and precision. Clara rounds out the group with her captivating voice, ukulele, and bass guitar — and a gift for bringing joyful chaos to any room she enters. Her playful energy keeps audiences laughing between the moments that make them cry. Together, Dirk, Cheryl, D-3, and Clara make up a family that has refused to let hardship silence their song.
