Yamomanem Jazz band plays New Orleans Jazz and 30s Creole Caribbean music. Twice nominated by Washington Area Music association as Washington DC's best Jazz band
(2007 and 2008), We have played everywhere from the Kennedy Center, The West Wing of The White House ,to our Annual Mardi Gras Parade from DuPont Circle to The Bayou on Penn where Louisiana expats celebrate dat day all day into the night the way we do down South, Additionally, We help with DCs annual Funk Parade on Ust and have other clients that have ended up friends over the years. Most people like us because we go beyond repertoire - we hit a New Orleans style show, if it's a wedding and we sing a song everybody knows watch out, the next verse might be about you and that tie you're wearing, or how good grandma cakewalks with the Sousaphone player compared to the shy youngns... or how we can't wait to hit the bar at set break, New Orleans music isn't old timey, or sometimey - it's where you at...now, alive and celebrating the life of the dearly departed, newly married, or folks that need to celebrate. We do formal gigs well- but never lose the accent.
We play chilled out dinner sets at our regular Sala Thai gigs - very quiet sets, and put on the free style sit ins welcome New Orleans jazz set at our monthly Haydees Show in Mt Pleasant. Other quarterly residencies include The Republic in Takoma Park and The Bayou on Penn. Our CD features not only classic New Orleans traditional tunes done our way but also ambient interludes featuring sounds from the Atchafalaya swamp, Missisippi River, Natchez Calliope, St Charles Street Car and speeches by Huey Long. PT Barnum and street characters most New Orleans will recognize .Probably the first Dixieland recording anywhere to marry electronica and tradtional Jazz. Possibly the first to be remixed by DJs. We sprinkle the set with Latin and Carribean music of the same time to vary the mood just a bit- Jelly Roll called it "the latin tinge" and we push that a bit as well.
" Led by tuba player extrordinaire Monty Montgomery, Yamomanem are one of the most, rollicking, spirited and down to earth bands to ever hit DC, Put on your dancing shoes, close your eyes, and feel like your'e in another era..."
