I have been playing the pipes for over 30 years. I've played for weddings, funerals, indeed a variety of occasions large and small. I've played for a future president of the United States and on the 18th hole of a local golf course for a member event. I've even played on ice for a Curling event! Good thing my kilt is wool! Brrr!!! I've also played in the middle of the night on the shores of Loch Ness in Scotland, trying to entice the monster, Nessie to make an appearance! It didn't work. Are you looking for something unique and special for your event? Think of the stirring sound of the bagpipes! I play a selection of traditional pipe tunes, even Happy Birthday for that special occasion. I will appear in traditional Highland garb, even black-tie for evening events. However, I will never reveal what is worn under the kilt! As a disclaimer, I would like to mention that the bagpipes are a fickle instrument. The reeds (there are four in total) don't seem to care for cold, damp weather. Temperatures under 45F wreak havoc with the sound and could even damage the natural wood of the pipes and chanter. Therefore, playing outside during the late fall through winter months is not recommended. Playing inside or in a sheltered, warm space is fine. Since sound quality is of the utmost importance when providing music for any event, I felt this information would be helpful for your planning purposes. Thank you! I play a range of tunes from quick marches to slow airs, even the classical music of the pipes called Piobaireachd. I can provide a complete list for your type of event on request, but a sample for a wedding celebration is: Scotland the Brave, Mairi's Wedding, Highland Cathedral, and Flower of Scotland. For funerals: Amazing Grace, Going Home, Dark Island, and Danny Boy. Other tunes are: Skye Boat Song (the opening music in "Outlander"), Happy Birthday, and a few lively Irish tunes! If you have a specific tune in mind, please let me know and I will endeavor to find a bagpipe setting for it. The pipes are limited to one octave and nine notes so many pieces of music are difficult to transpose for playing on the pipes. I can also provide a short talk on the history of the bagpipe, the tartans, and wearing the kilt.
