Pipe Major Gordon Webster Bagpiper from Concord, NH

Gordon Webster, ex Scots Guards, 9th Sovereign's Piper, is one of the most honored Scottish Highland pipers in the United States. He began his Highland piping studies at the age of eleven with the Torphican and Bathgate Pipe Band in Scotland. He was a member of the Scots Guards for many years and attended special piping courses during his military service. He passed the Pipe Major's course at Edinburgh Castle, the highest Army certification, and was recognized as one of the top pipers in the British Army. His artistry and skill led him to be selected to serve a term as Piper to Queen Elizabeth of England. Following his service to the Queen, Gordon immigrated to the United States to be with his wife, piper and Highland dancer Lezlie Webster. Together they founded the New Hampshire School of Scottish Arts in Manchester, N.H. The school offers instruction in a wide range of Scottish musical instruments and Highland dance. Gordon and Lezlie were invited to represent Scottish Highland piping and dance traditions for New Hampshire's presentation at the 1999 Smithsonian Folklife Festival and again for the expanded recreation Celebrate New Hampshire festival held in 2000 in Hopkinton, N.H.
