WALK STREET BLUES BAND Blues Band from Venice, CA

We are a Venice, California based Blues, R & B and old school Soul Band, specializing in authentic covers of the great modern blues masters. We love what we do and consistently get people dancing and in a party mood. We love to play and host what we call our Blues Party. Our credentials are well established on the Westside of LA. We have successfully performed at top venues in Venice, Santa Monica and Culver City, including the former Witz End, where we presented a Stax/Volt revue and tribute, complete with horn section and keyboards. The legendary Hal’s Bar and Grill on Abbott Kinney Blvd as well as Hal’s in Playa Vista, The Trip in Santa Monica, The Fairmont Hotel “Under The Fig” holiday party, are some of our venues. We also host our own Blues Party for our followers, who number 100 strong, at the Elks Lodge #1917 in Culver City. A little background on the band. We started as a master class rehearsal band, based on a mutual love of blues , soul and old school r&b by founding members Tom Paris and Bob Coleman. We were elated to find Leon Rubenhold, a blues guitarist, lead singer and song writer, whose blues pedigree goes back to the Outlaw Blues Band, of which he was a founding member. His guitar playing has taken him on world wide travels with the best of the soul bands of the 70’s and 80’s including Wilson Pickett. We have since added drummer Leon Abner, who has his own history of blues and soul work that is almost too long to list. Suffice it to say that when he was 16 he played drums for Ike and Tina Turner and later The Chambers Brothers and also includes an 18 month road stint with Michael Jackson. In addition, we have the fabulous voice of Lisa Newberry handling most of the lead vocals. A stirring singer she invariably has all the women up on the floor dancing with her strong interpretations of classics by Etta James, Koko Taylor, Ann Peebles Tracy Chapman and Ruthie Foster. Rounding out the band are myself Tom Paris on guitar & harp, and Bob Coleman on bass. We are both lovers of the blues and grew up with Soul music in our prospective midwest towns of Cleveland and Chicago.
