Paul Downie & Friends Soul Band from Philadelphia, PA

Drummer and vocalist Paul Downie leads a band that is upbeat and dedicated to bringing positive energy to your event! The band presents a sound they describe as "Rhythm & Soul". It's a lively mix of R&B, REGGAE, CALYPSO and upbeat JAZZ with an emphasis on songs rooted in the musical traditions of New Orleans and Jamaica. The band regularly covers songs by the Neville Brothers, Dr. John and Bob Marley as well as jazz favorites by Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, and Lee Morgan reworked with a Caribbean feel. Paul also includes a few of his spirited his original compositions from time to time. Percussion figures heavily in the band's sound. Paul plays both drum set and percussion and is often joined by an additional percussionist in the band. This allows the band to explore a rhythmic spectrum incorporating many traditions and recreating well known songs with unique, lively arrangements. The band size ranges from a trio through an 8 piece ensemble featuring horns and additional percussion. A quintet featuring drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and a single horn or percussion is common. For intimate settings Paul even performs in a duo with a pianist or guitarist. For the past 25 years Paul has been performing in Philadelphia and along the East Coast in a wide variety of bands and settings. He is friendly, easy to work with, and works with a solid roster of talented and professional musicians. PLUS! . . .
