John Stevens has been a Member for many years of the: National Cartoonist Society The International Society of Caricature Artists, and an Associate Member of The Society Of Illustrators. He has been a Professional Cartoonist, Illustrator & Caricaturist for over 50 years. While at School of Visual Arts, John , worked , on weekends, in the Concession stand of a famous Summer Stock Theatrical stage shows Whereupon , he drew he appearing celebrities, from their magazine pictures,at home , and brought them to the theatre, took a break, and went back stage, knocked on their stage door ,introduced himself,and gave them their cartoon portraits Chutzpah... Jayne Mansfield, was the first celebrity John drew,, she was beautiful, John gave her ,her cartoon portrait, She said , this is for me...I nodded yes, and she patted John on his cheek, and said Thank you, you sweet boy" A week, later Liberace was there, John drew , a cartoon portrait for him, ..Lee as he was called,was shy, John gave him the cartoon portrait, Lee stuttered a bit & said. Would you like my autograph.? ..John,, said yes, He signed the program adding a sketch of His candle arbor The Lovin' Spoonfull rock stars & more John's first published cartoons were created in 1968, for Esquire Socks via Robin Leach's Rock & Roll Newspaper called, Go Magazine , ... , Then Royal Crown Cola, and a few political comic strips ,too That is how it all started 50 years ago. From then onto..now... Some of John's published work; 101 Uses for a Dead Cube,selling 135,000 copies Video Madness selling,28,000 copies The Best of Saturday Evening Post, & others.. Marvel Comics Crazy Magazine, & much more Including King Features Syndicate , The Grass is Greener comic strip Professional Summer Stock theatre poster, for Phantom, Tommy the Rock Opera Swan Lake on Ice, and many more shows, for several years His own original play, called "A Ghost of a Chance." .whereupon, .John killed Ebeneezer Scrooge in a black comedy courtroom drama murder mystery, Designed the visual set up for: Vegas NJ, in, Randolph ,NJ , A sofisticated adult night spot and Gotham , in Paramus NJ a Batman's fun party place Also my cartoon appears Best of Saturday Evening Post, and more, still Caricatures no one taught him, he, as many other caricaturists did it buy the Trial by Fire....Sit Down & Draw Caring Giving, Clever, Creative, and Professional..... Unique.... His approach is to find a fun way to Gift people, Giving: If it's a Wedding, he will personalize the art, at no extra charge If it is a Birthday he will inquire if there is a theme Clever: If you want it drawn quickly , but also want color, he has a unique way to accommodate you.
