Steve Lockwood Jazz Pianist from Los Angeles, CA

I am interested in work as a solo pianist. The venue isn't important, although private parties seem to work the best. I am basically a classically trained jazz musician. Since childhood, I have studied both styles, and both have influenced me greatly. I enjoy the 'mainstream' jazz style today as I have all these years.. I have learned hundreds of tunes from the great era of Broadway. These shows were written by composers like George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers and others. While I can give a very authentic jazz feel ( I spent 12 years in New York) I also can give these same tunes a very 'grand' style of playing that is more classically influenced. As you might guess, I enjoy playing the music of the great jazz composers. Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Tad Dameron and Benny Golsen are but a few of many more. I have played these tunes in group contexts, but I feel I can give a fine entertainment to a function by playing these compositions in a solo context. I have also searched the early jazz greats and can play in the stride style of some of these masters including Art Tatum, and Fats Waller. I also enjoy 'pop' standards by Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, and Steve Wonder as well as the many bossa novas, sambas waltzes (Classical) and Tangos that might urge you to dance!
