Tater and the Tokers — a high-energy Arizona band creating a sound all their own. Their self-proclaimed style, known as Voodoo Country, blends outlaw country attitude, southern rock edge, red dirt storytelling, bluesy guitar work, and the kind of grit that feels right at home on a back road or beneath the desert sky. It is bold, loud, heartfelt, and built for people who like their country music with a little rebellion in it. Tater and the Tokers bring a mix of original music and crowd-favorite country songs to every stage they play. Whether they are performing for a packed local venue, a community event, or a major festival crowd, their goal is simple: create a real connection, bring people together, and make every show feel like a celebration. The band has built a growing following throughout Arizona and the Southwest, earning two appearances as Country Thunder performers and taking home the title of City of Florence RTCT Battle of the Bands Champion in 2025. Their live show is driven by powerful vocals, gritty guitars, steady grooves, and the kind of energy that makes it hard to stand still. Meet Tater and the Tokers Josh “Tater” Hoganson — Vocals & Rhythm Guitar Josh “Tater” Hoganson is the heart behind Tater and the Tokers. As the band’s founder, lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and songwriter, he is the creative force behind the group’s original music and signature Voodoo Country sound. Josh’s musical path began more than four decades ago in the hard rock world, but his songwriting eventually led him toward country music with a more honest, roots-driven feel. His songs are inspired by real life — family, faith, hard-earned lessons, and the moments that shape us. After stepping away from music to focus on raising his family, Josh found his way back to the stage in a meaningful way. Recording music for his grandson reignited a passion that had never truly left, and that spark ultimately helped create the band audiences know today. In 2024, Tater released his solo album, Show Me Your Taters, giving fans an even deeper look at his songwriting and unmistakable voice. The band is now hard at work writing the next chapter, with a follow-up album already in the works. Jason “The Joker” Eastwood — Drums Every great band needs someone keeping the wheels turning, and Jason “The Joker” Eastwood is exactly that for Tater and the Tokers. With experience across punk, rock, country, and jazz, Jason brings versatility, power, and personality to the drum kit. His early influence from the raw energy of ’90s punk still shows up in the drive and intensity he brings to the band’s live performances. Jason has played stages of all sizes, including major festival appearances with an Oklahoma City-based band. No matter where he is performing, he brings the same enthusiasm, humor, and heart for the people in the room. For Jason, music is about more than playing songs — it is about creating memories and giving people a reason to celebrate together. Carl “The Sierra Outlaw” Moles — Lead Guitar & Vocals Arizona native Carl “The Sierra Outlaw” Moles brings serious musicianship, soul, and stage presence to Tater and the Tokers. Before fully stepping into music, Carl served six years in the United States Marine Corps and later retired after a respected career with the Arizona Department of Corrections. After retirement, he leaned into the musical passion passed down through his family and found a new calling on stage. Drawing from country, classic rock, southern rock, and blues, Carl adds soaring guitar work and strong vocals to the band’s sound. His ability to bring both technical skill and emotion to every performance helps give the band its edge. AZDCMA is always grateful for those who have served our country and communities, and we are proud to recognize Carl’s service alongside his contribution to Arizona music. Keller Hogan — Bass Guitar Holding down the low end for Tater and the Tokers is Keller Hogan, whose steady bass lines and live-performance experience help keep the band locked in from the first song to the last. Keller brings a wide-ranging musical background to the group. Along with performing with the Tokers, he also plays guitar in a reggae band, giving him a versatile feel for rhythm, groove, and blending genres. Keller’s role is all about supporting the song, keeping the energy moving, and helping create the kind of live experience fans remember long after the last note fades. A Sound Made for the Stage Tater and the Tokers are proof that Arizona country music has room for artists willing to stretch the boundaries while still honoring the storytelling and heart that make country music special. Their Voodoo Country sound is not about fitting neatly into one box. It is about taking the best parts of outlaw country, southern rock, Americana, blues, and red dirt music and turning them into something personal, powerful, and unmistakably their own.
