Quimbombó Latin Band from New York City, NY

Quimbombo blends Cuban dance rhythms such as the son (the contagious dance music championed by Buena Vista Social Club that is the main ingredient in salsa), mambo, bolero, rumba and chachacha with jazz and blues influences to create a lively, unique and always danceable sound. The group has performed at many venues including The River to River Festival, Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night's Swing, SOB's, the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Museum, Gonzalez y Gonzalez, and Rockefeller Center. They have recorded two CDs, Quimbombó, released in 2004, and Conga Electrica, released in 2008. Our specialty is Cuban dance music; that's what we do. We can also play merengue, latin jazz, jazz, and swing. We do not play top 40 or pop. Another option is a Carnival Show which can include costumed dancers, conga line and more. Members of Quimbombo have performed and recorded with many well known artists, including: Celia Cruz, The Talking Heads, Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Compay Segundo (from Buena Vista Social Club), Paquito D'Rivera, Cachao, Willie Chirino, Johnny Pacheco, Machito, Ruben Blades, Albita, Gilberto Santarosa, Gregg Allman, Cab Calloway, Abbey Lincoln, Geri Allen and Trey Anastasio.
