Hailing originally from Newark, New Jersey, Roseal Fowlkes, aka “DJ Master T” has called the Washington, DC metropolitan area home for the past twenty-eight years, following an illustrious career in the United States Air Force. With a profound love for music that traces back to 1977, the allure of witnessing captivating performances by some of New York’s most esteem professional deejays like Tony Humphrey, Merlin Bob, Larry Levan, and Steve “Silk” Hurley inspired me to whole heartedly pursue my passion for music and embark on a journey as a deejay.
Determined to perfect the art of keeping the dance floor alive, I devoted countless hours to honing my skills, experimenting with the diverse mixing, and scratching techniques. My commitment extended to participating in listening sessions at local radio stations, where I gained invaluable insights and further refined my craft.
My musical journey commenced at the young age of thirteen when I began entertaining family and friends at various gatherings. In 1981, I landed my first professional gig at Ronnie’s, a club in Newark, New Jersey, where I played oldies-but-goodies on Sunday afternoons. Impressed with my skills, Ronnie’s management soon invited me to DJ on Friday and Saturday nights, making me a regular weekend attraction.
Even during my 22-year military career, my passion for deejaying remained unwavering. I continued to refine my craft, performing at numerous military clubs, wedding receptions, cabarets, and private parties on bases like Quantico Marine Base, Fort Belvoir, Andrews Air Force Base, and Bolling Air Force Base. In 1986, I secured a remarkable eight-year gig at Utopia Nightclub in Landover, MD, one of the largest nightclubs in the metro DC area.
My reputation as a skilled DJ quickly grew, and I found myself in high demand at prominent clubs in the metro area, including Zanzibar, Tradewinds, Fox Trap, PJ’s, The Classics, and Silver Shadows Nightclub. In 1994, I was honored as the “DJ of Choice” by the Gentlemen of Metro, a title I proudly hold to this day. Additionally, in the same year, I assumed the role of Head DJ and Sound Engineer at Baystreet Nightclub located in Lanham, MD where I continue to work until 2020, dedicating 26 years of service to that establishment. Throughout the pandemic, I have kept music alive by playing on various Livestream platforms, providing listeners with musical joy twice a week.
The list of my engagements and entertainment venues is extensive and noteworthy. From week-long Carnival cruises hosted by KIQ Social Club to energizing events for the DC Chapter of Blacks in Government, major financial institutions, and universities, my musical prowess has left an indelible mark. Notable occasions include performance at the Morgan State Annual Gala, McKinley Tech Annual Gala, Andrews Federal Credit Holiday Party and Award Galas, WaterMark Cruises in Annapolis, MD, and Seasons at Magnolia Manor in Westminster, MD. In addition, I currently serve as the deejay for Dr. Cheryl Wood, an international motivational speaker, best-selling author, and master speaker development coach for women.
My versatility as a DJ spans various genres, such as R&B, House, Jazz, Hand/Line Dance, Top 40, Rock, Soca, Reggae, Afro Beats, and Go-Go. My profound musical knowledge, attention to detail, and exceptional customer service make me one of the DMV’s premier deejays and a true crowd favorite. I bring an energetic and soul-stirring style to my performances, crafting musical mixes that captivate and enthrall diverse audiences. My colorful, melodic rhythms are truly addictive, leaving music lovers wanting more.
