THIS IS NOT MURDER MYSTERY DINNER THEATER! We do PARTIES for groups of 35-70 people where ALL of the guests ALL play characters. It is the party for people who want "something different!" Very few people have ever been to an event where 50 or 60 people are all playing characters. HOW IT WORKS: First select a theme: pirate, roaring 20s, soap opera, rock and roll, sci-fi, or holiday party. (For the holiday party, we thought a murder theme might be inappropriate, so the players investigate who might have stolen Santa's magic dust that makes reindeer fly. ) Once the theme has been selected, players go to our website. They click on their event, which shows them a list of characters that are broken down into major, minor, and extra characters - just like a movie. So if they are a live wire, they can choose a big part, and if they are shy, they can take a small part. A week before the party, they will receive their character information. This reveals who their character is, what they know, who they know, and whether they are the killer. But then they have a week to think about it. This is when the magic starts, as the pre-party buzz is tremendous! They can't wait to go to the event and be their character! This is what happens at the event: All the parts are written so that the characters are going to a party. So if it is the Roaring 20s party, they are all attending a gathering planned to honor a crime boss. If it is the holiday party, it is the party Santa throws every year for his friends and staff. If it is a rock and roll party, it is a backstage party to kick off the world tour for a rock star. So guests are “in character” from the moment they walk into the party. We give them their nametag, and they immediately assume their identity. There is about half an hour of mixing/mingling/socializing as guests arrive – typically doors might open at 7:30 pm and the first clue being announced at 8:00. During this initial half hour, guests mix and mingle just like a regular event. However, everybody is “in character.” At 8:00, we gather everybody together and give them a few guidelines. This tells them the killer was selected at random - nobody, not even the point person from the group, knows who the killer is. So even the point person for the group gets to play along and might be the killer. We then do introductions of characters, which takes 15-20 minutes, depending upon the size of the group. If it is a very large group, we would only introduce major characters. After the introductions, we tell them there has been a murder, and the victim, of course, is someone that everybody knows. The murders have all happened “off-site.” For example, we might tell everybody the rock star was killed in her studio. So this means we don’t have to perform a skit and guests do not have to recite lines or “perform” in front of a large group. The party then transitions into a typical mingling event where guests share the last time they saw the deceased. Of course, the mother of the deceased must be consoled by guests – some guests are shocked, and yet others may have hated the victim, so they are glad he/she is dead. Every 10-15 minutes, we broadcast news bulletins with new clues. After all the clues have been announced, we ask for volunteers to guess who they think did it. These comments are always hilarious because by now people have come up with many bizarre, funny and ridiculous theories (especially if alcohol was provided at the event!) We then solve the mystery, guests vote on best actor and actress, and we hand out trophies (that look like Oscars) for best costume, best actor and best actress. That is the end of the event. Guests will realize that they have just played the game of make believe that we all played as children. Nobody told us what to say - we used our imaginations! And that's why our parties are true magic. Companies love our events because nobody talks shop since everybody is in character. The CEO is now on the same level as the employees, and the new hires are not at a disadvantage. About a third of our parties are private events in private homes. A third of our parties are corporate events, and a third are public events where people sign up for parts on our website. We believe our events would be perfect for rehearsal dinners (though we admit we have not done one yet.) How that would work is people would show up in character, we would do the event, and then we would go back to reality with the wedding bride and groom speeches coming after the mystery is done. Regarding price, our fee is based on $25 per person with a minimum of 35 guests. So the $875 is based on $25 per guest multiplied by 35 people, resulting in a total of $875.
