SAGE - California Folk Folk Band from Mill Valley, CA

Sage blends traditions, challenging the definition of acoustic music. You will hear a mix of Americana, contemporary folk, originals and a combination of diverse musical tastes and creativity. Sage brings a authentic expression of a way of life accompanied by guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, pedal steel guitar. Emily Lois is a local singer-songwriter acoustic guitarist living in Sonoma County, her voice and songwriting are soulful, earthy and sensual, she writes with transparency and honesty that draws the listener in from the first note. Gary Kaye is a multi-instrumentalist who has performed and recorded with many well known artists over his musical career. He brings his talents of banjo and pedal steel guitar to Sage. His pedal steel playing provides texture along with glowing complex ambience. It’s high lonesome sound floats over, or inside of their songs interweaving through musical passages. Gary has played banjo for as long as he can remember and expresses his vast musical tastes in his playing with SAGE. Dana Rath plays mandolin, octave mandolin, guitar, fiddle and joins on vocals. Dana studied classical guitar, mandolin, and co-founded the Grammy Nominated Modern Mandolin Quartet with Mike Marshall. The MMQ recorded eight CDs, toured extensively, and performed with some virtuosic, accomplished musicians: Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile, Sam Bush, Andy Narrell and Michael Manring. Dana’s songwriting conjures up the imagery of growing up on the plains and explores the trials of living in the landscape of modern life. His favorite musical genres are “all of them”, but will admit that he has a country heart.
