Easing into the first hour of the party, her playing was subtle and not at all intrusive as guests were renewing old friendships and beginning new. She broke easily as the group was formally welcomed and the meal begun. The focus of the group then naturally turned toward Ms. Garrett, and she, very appropriately, moved into a more "center stage" performance.
