Early life & education Kabir Dalawari is a drummer, composer, and educator based in Chicago, Illinois. He studied Jazz Studies at Loyola University Chicago, where he also explored psychology and neuroscience — a unique combination that subtly informs his musical sensibility. Later, he went on to graduate studies in Jazz Performance at DePaul University, studying under noted educator and ethnomusicologist Dana Hall. Through this academic foundation, Dalawari has grounded himself not only in jazz technique and history, but also in a broad understanding of human cognition and musical perception — allowing him to approach rhythm, improvisation, and composition with depth and awareness. As Performer & Bandleader Dalawari leads his own ensembles which have become fixtures in the vibrant Chicago jazz scene. His band has played at some of the city’s top venues, including Andy’s Jazz Club, Winter's Jazz Club, Fitzgerald's, Evanston SPACE, and more.
