Shepley Metcalf Jazz Duo from Cambridge, MA

Shepley Metcalf and pianist Ron Roy specialize in presenting fantastic-but-forgotten gems from the Great American Songbook. They adore songs that swing, and that tell a tale with wit-and-wisdom filled lyrics. The duo offers up these tunes, along with jazz standards, as a cabaret show or as background music. Performing together since 2008, Metcalf and Roy have played at venues including the Metropolitan Room (NYC), Davenport's (Chicago), Scullers Jazz Club, Acton Jazz Cafe, Wellfleet Preservation Hall, Cotuit Center for the Arts, Upstairs on the Square, Book + Bar, and New Bridge on the Charles. Released last fall, the duo's album "Don't Bother to Knock," featuring little-known tunes from the 1930s to '50s, has received airplay on jazz stations nationwide and abroad. Their first album, "Something Irresistible: Songs of Fran Landesman + Simon Wallace," garnered a four-star/excellent review from Britain's top jazz magazine, Jazzwise, and can be heard on Pandora. Their show of these songs received a favorable review in The New York Times. Roy, on the faculty at The Boston Conservatory, has performed as music director and pianist with shows and singers around the U.S. and abroad. He is also on the faculty at The Tuscany Project, an intensive vocal workshop held each summer in Italy. It was there he and Metcalf met in 2005; she went as a student to reinvigorate her singing career.
