Due to the passing of Steve Walley, one of the Midwest’s most talented pianists, along with the Covid pandemic, Dan Heath and the Paradise Band discontinued performances in late 2018 until now (Thanksgiving of 2022). But prior to late 2018, Dan Heath with the Paradise was the #2 ranked swing band and the #8 rated jazz band in all of Gigmasters, which includes hundreds of entertainers. All musicians are highly trained and educated with great experiences in music performance. Dan Heath is an extraordinary vocalist who can cover a number of musical genres from Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, the Beatles, Elvis, jazz and pop standards and even Broadway show tunes. Some of his recordings were aired at 106.3 FM and also at the local NPR jazz station. In 2006 Heath was selected as a semi-finalist to compete against some of the best vocalists in America and the world at the Savannah Music Festival's American Traditions Competition. The second position in the band is held by Bob Diss, the ensemble’s gifted pianist who has been performing for decades. The third position is held by Terry Vaughn who was a former school band director with a degree in music from Grace College. Terry supports the very fine rhythm section of the ensemble as one of the very finest drummers in the midwest. The fourth position is held by Dave Nelson, a long-time Fort Wayne area bassist who also adds his great talent to the band. The fifth position is held by sax player John Weber, a decades-long performer with the 18-piece New Millennium Jazz Orchestra and other Fort Wayne area ensembles. The final, sixth position of the ensemble, the trumpet position, is filled by our very fine trumpet player, Rod Noftsger. Rod is a recent transfer from the Nashville area and is one of the most respected trumpet players in the Midwest. From 2003 through 2018, Dan Heath with the Paradise Band has played at literally hundreds of venues including the Grand Wayne Center (Fort Wayne) for "Dancing with the Fort Wayne Stars," the Dayton Art Institute's Annual Gala, "Friday Nights Live" at Jefferson Pointe (Fort Wayne), Chicago's East Bank Club, and Huntington University's Homecoming Dance just to highlight a few events. Dan Heath and the Paradise Band performed for the Inaugural Auburn 'Concours d'Elegance' at the Kruse WWII Museum 'Meadows' as a part of the huge Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival (Sept.4, 2005) and for many subsequent events for Kruse International. Dan Heath with the Paradise Band has also performed at many Fort Wayne area festivals including Canal Days, Hoagland Days, Harlan Days, the 3 Rivers Festival and the Delphos, Ohio Rotary Summer Concert Series, Columbia City's Old Settler's Days, and the New Bremen, Ohio, Parks Department Summer Concert Series just to name a few. In July of 2007 the band was one of only six area bands asked to be a part of the prestigious Honeywell Center's "Sizzlin' Summer Concert Series." In July of 2006 the band performed as a part of Club Soda's "Rat Pack Series" which was sponsored by the Downtown Improvement District (DID) of Fort Wayne. The band also performs for many area weddings and corporate events at the Fort Wayne Summit Club and the Fort Wayne Marriott. The summer of '07 took the band into festivals in Ohio and Michigan. Early in 2009 the band was asked to perform for "Casino Night" at the campus of Ohio State University for Alpha Tau Omega and then Ohio State Football Coach Jim Tressel to raise funds for cancer research.
