Joyously discover a fine jazz singer. The Brooks sound gives new meaning to familiar lyrics, turns old favorites into fresh, exciting musical experiences. Her classy brand of jazz bridges the gaps between generations. A smooth, mature and trained voice that delivers sultry, sophisticated, and dynamic jazz, passionate, moving Gospel and a truly vast repertoire of familiar and less well known standards, jazz tunes, R&B pop and a little Country in her own style and arrangements. 5 CDs on sale, the latest being, "The Strength To Go On" an touching, original single. Other CDs include the album "Great Women of Jazz: A Tribute" (based on the show by Suzanne Brooks performed for the 4th time on August 24, 2007) and 'Listening To The Radio' (orignal single, words & music by Brooks) released December, 2005. A superb musician, Chris Lee on keyboard or piano, is outstanding in his own right, young and dynamic, performing exciting solos and imaginative improvisation. He also plays with the Latin Jazz Ensemble of California State University, Sacramento. Gabe Stivala is an intense and emotional guitarist with Argentine roots. He has a long history with jazz, R&B and rock bands from Florida to California. Gabe adds beautiful solos, often performing as a duo with the vocalist. Kim Nguyen is a triple wonder on keyboard, bass and flute and beautiful too. This talented jazz musician amazingly can more than hold her own with hip-hop, rock and pop, as well as being a serious jazz musician. Joel Bremson, another talented and experienced guitarist,is a serious musican with a light and lively side. He and Gabe can team up and deliver exciting and beautiful music. Motoshi Kosako, jazz harpist and winner of 2nd place in the August, 2007 International Jazz Harp Competition, has a background as a rock and jazz guitarist, who then learned classical harp and plays as principal harpist of the Stockton Symphone. As a jazz harpist he is making a name for his innovative style and the beauty of the music he produces. He and the vocalist are the featured entertainment of the 2007 annual awards program of the Sacramento Arts and Business Council. Newest member of the group, drummer Gary Bohannon, is not new to percussion. With a wealth of experience in multiple genres and a history of working with some of the finest drumming instructors in the business, he delivers on traps, congas and other percussion instruments. Options in hiring the group include work as vocal/instrumental duo with the choice of keyboard/piano, harp or guitar. The Jazz Generation also works as a trio, quartet, quintet and more--always including vocals. The atmosphere of The Jazz Generation is a positive thing to experience, always a diversified group that swings, is entertaining and wonderful to observe. The Jazz Generation formed in 2004, however all members of the group have been performing elsewhere for 10 to 20 years or more. For client convenience, The Jazz Generation accepts Visa/Mastercard.

Review by Mary C.

WeddingReviewed on July 12, 2008From Fair Play, CA

They were very nice, and the backup band was good, but I was quite disappointed in their overall performance. They absolutely botched the song I requested for my dance with my father (didn't know the time key, reading the lyrics off a sheet, it was so bad my father and I didn't dance but just discussed how terrible it was). All in all, they were the worst element of my wedding, I don't like thinking about it too much, and I would never recommend them. Messy and unprofessional.

The Jazz Generation:

Client Notes prior to bid on gig: "It's going to be a very low key wedding held outside". There will be about 100 guests. We're looking for a band that can play jazz standards." Gave price break, despite 2+ hours travel. Special song was a folk song for which we bought music & played as a ballad as discussed. Never any discussion of formal wear; client was advised we wear all black or black&white business wear, unless client requests other in writing. Client agreed on dress. Power outage occurred; event was without light, then candles. Band played w/too little light to read. Many compliments from guests and clients all evening and when paid. Business cards requested
