Urban Gypsy is a cutting edge Flamenco/Latin Jazz/World Music trio that blends the beautiful sounds of the Acoustic Guitar and the Saxophone and Flute with a mix of exotic and urban grooves from around the globe. Urban Gypsy's artfully executed musical performances provide a contemporary and elegant ambience at every event for which they perform. The trio performs for many exclusive events throughout Florida, including the 2009 Miami Fashion Week opening night after party at the Eden Roc Resort in Miami Beach, the Four Arts Society in Palm Beach, as well as 2010 Super Bowl events at the Westin Diplomat. Urban Gypsy is also active in supporting important causes with select volunteer performances throughout the local communities. >>>The Urban Gypsy trio's saxophonist/flautist, John Michalak, is a Grammy Nominated musician whose versatility and passionate playing style has allowed him to record and perform around the world with international superstars, such as JULIO IGLESIAS, RICKY MARTIN, SANTANA, ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK, PATTI LABELLE, JON SECADA, KC and THE SUNSHINE BAND, DAVID LEE ROTH, and GLORIA ESTEFAN, who John currently tours with. John has performed throughout Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and he combines his Jazz background with the musical influences he discovered in his Mediterranean travels to create an improvisational style that is uniquely Urban Gypsy. >>>Urban Gypsy's guitarist, Islay Rodriguez, has a refined musical style that makes him in demand throughout Florida. His repertoire covers a variety of musical genres such as Classical, Flamenco, Pop and Latin Jazz. Islay has been performing professionally since age 16, and has played many of the region's top venues, including the Kravis Center in Palm Beach, various Disney Hotels and Resorts, as well as Cruise ships such as “The Discovery Sun” and Royal Caribbean’s “Voyager of the seas”. >>>The trio's drummer and percussionist, Michael Rivero, has been performing in South Florida for nearly 20 years, and has performed at major events such as Sunfest, and played with and opened for world renowned artists such as John Secada and Carlos Santana.
