The award-winning Latin/world music group, Correo Aereo (translation 'Air Mail', and pronounced 'cor-ray-o eye-air-e-o'), play gorgeous traditional folk music from Latin America, with a focus on music from Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba and Afro-Peru. Correo Aereo has won acclaim for their unique sound, layering multi-instrumental string and percussive instrumentals over silky rich vocals. Awarded 'Best Traditional Latin Group' by the Austin Music Awards, this Seattle-based touring group began playing Latin/ world music at local, national and international music festivals and venues, delighting audiences since 1992. Correo Aereo performs as a duo, trio, quartet or larger ensemble. They can also include a dancer depending on the needs of the occasion. While deeply rooted in the authentic traditional and enduring music of Latin America, they also incorporate original songs and arrangements into their performances that soulfully expand the parameters of their art form. Correo Aereo's instrumentation and vocal harmonies have been described as “locked in carnal embrace” by the Austin Chronicle. One of the finest and most respected traditional groups in the North American acoustic music scene, the members of Correo Aereo are superb performers and true professionals. Abel Rocha is on Venezuelan and Mexican harp, guitar, cuatro, and vocals. Madeleine Sosin on violin, maracas, bombo, jarana, quijada and vocals. As a trio and quartet they are most often joined by Amy Denio on clarinet, accordion and vocals, Court Crawford on bass, and Ricardo Guity on percussion. They create a gorgeous ever-shifting landscape of sound. Their music is perfect for public, corporate and private events, parties, celebrations, weddings, schools, universities, festivals, concerts, as well as for cinema and television. "Above all, I love to be in their presence when they perform. At times to watch their vivid presence on-stage, at others to listen, with my eyes closed, to the beauty of their sounds.” Spider Kedelsky, Producer/Curator, Town Hall Seattle, Global Rhythms Series “Listening to their performance one can unite space and time across cultures. I highly recommend Correo Aereo.” Dr. Juan Tony Guzman, Director of Jazz Dept. Luther College, Music Dept.
