BANANA OIL PAN BAND: The Banana Oil Pan Band is a steel pan band (steel drums) specializing in Caribbean, Calypso, island, and other styles of music including well known jazz, Latin, and popular tunes all played on steel pans. We do covers by artist such as Jimmy Buffett, Santana, Little Village, John Hiatt, Ry Cooder, Paul Simon, Jobim, Andy Nerall, David Rudder, Roy Orbison, Harry Belafonte, Freddy Hubbert, Spyro Gyro, Jaco Pastorius, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Lord Kitchener. Most of our material has an island feel, however, we are dedicated to the philosophy that any kind of music can be played on the pans. Christmas performances on pan are especially inspiring. STEEL PANS: Pans are unique musical instruments, developed in Trinidad & Tobago in the late 1940's. They are made from discarded 55 gal steel drums and are often called "steel drums". Regardless of what name is used, it is the delightfully unique sound that is unforgettable. If you have visited the Caribbean, you are probably familiar with pans and the festive melodies and rhythms associated with calypso pan music. This music is appropriate for any occasion where people intend to be entertained and have a good time. Luaus, pool parties, block parties, fundraisers, art fairs and festivals, birthday parties, weddings, anniversaries, business or social conventions, picnics and luncheons are especially good candidates. BAND CONFIGURATIONS: We can provide band configurations all the way from a Solo to a Sextet and more. The majority of our bookings are for the Quintet and the Duet with the Trio a close runner up. SEXTET: Consist of (2) lead pan players; (1) double second pan player/singer; Lead singer/percussionist; Bass & Drums. QUINTET: Consist of (1) lead pan player; (1) double second pan player/singer; Lead singer/percussionist; Bass & Drums. QUARTET: Consist of (1) lead pan player; (1) double second pan player/singer; Bass & Drums. TRIO: Consist of (1) double second pan player/singer; Bass & Drums DUET: Consist of (1) lead pan player; (1) double second pan player/singer with backing tracks. SOLO: Consist of (1) double second pan player/singer with backing tracks. - OR - (1) lead pan player with backing tracks The configurations can be augmented by adding pan players, horns, guitars, hula dancers, etc as desired. We can provided 2 distinct bands for one performance. All of the members are professional musicians and all play in other bands. With the addition a one or two musicians, we can morph from a pan band to a blues, jazz, country, or classic rock band.
