Sonido Costeno Latin Band from Brooklyn, NY

Sonido Costeño has been in business for over 20 years. It is one of the busiest Latin Bands in NY performing at New York City's best Clubs (check out their calendar on their website), Theaters, Public Libraries, Museums, Botanical Gardens, Restaurants, Cultural Institutions, Private and Corporate affairs, and outdoor Festivals such as: Celebrate Brooklyn, Grand Central Station, Highline Park, Brooklyn and NY Botanical Gardens, Museo del Barrio, Central Park, Brooklyn Museum of Art (BMA), SOB's,Subrosa, Havana Central restaurants, Gonzalez & Gonzalez, etc. Sonido Costeño was founded at NYC Lower East Side (LES) in 1982 through the collaboration of JuanMa with the Nuyorican Poet Bimbo Rivas writing the music score and songs for Bimbo's original off Broadway plays and thanks to the sponsorship of the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA), LES community organization CHARAS and Joseph Papp's Public Theater. The band has released seven full length albums: “Waiting”, “Al Bembe”, “De Parranda”, “Decirte Mas”, “Señora”, “Vacilon” and “En Clave” which have been received and well-liked by Latin music lovers here and abroad. “Señora's” single “Las Gaviotas” received the Billboard Latin Music Songwriting Award. Sonido Costeño features JuanMa on the National instrument of Puerto Rico, the Cuatro, guitar and Vocals. Only the Best musicians paly with the band as a Solo, Trio, Quartet all the way to a full orchestra.It plays hard Salsa for the “salseros” and they also play: Son Cubano, Nueva Trova, old school Boleros & Ballads, Cha, Mambo, Guaguanco, Latin Jazz, and are known to play Merengue and Bachata on occasion.
