About

Steven writes and performs in the Americana-Jazz-Rock genres and his songs and lyrics reflect his musings on relationships, faith, love and fantasy. He knows and can perform thousands of amazing cover songs from the 40's through 80's.

He plays guitar, piano and ukulele and performs as a solo artist or with The Steven Blane Band. He plays regularly at venues in NYC including Shine, Silvana and Rockwood.

Steven is also a Cantor and a Rabbi. He leads sold out High Holiday Services at The Bitter End in NYC each year.

He has released a new Hanukkah EP as well as a brand new Christmas song! He has an Americana EP in the works and a brand new 11 song album “Sweet Dreams” scheduled for Feb. 2020.

Hi recent six song EP, entitled “Hanukah” includes five traditional Hanukkah songs with new English interpretations and a song entitled "A Little Light” which he wrote for Hanukkah years ago, when he was a Hebrew School teacher. Blane says, “It seems to me that we need light, joy and inspiration in these dark times and that's what Hanukkah the holiday and my EP are all about!”

Also, in the style of so many Jewish songwriters who have written wonderful Christmas songs, Blane also recently released a single "First Christmas.” It's about the very first time you bring your baby home to meet family and friends for Christmas. Blane also produced a video for “First Christmas.” FIRST CHRISTMAS VIDEO

His newest album, “I Walk Alone,” is a collection of songs that Blane wrote and produced. He played all the instruments, recorded, mixed and mastered everything.

Blane says, “It's been cathartic. It's the closest I've come to getting what I really heard in my head. “I Walk Alone” is an album comprised 60's Rock & Roll, jazz tinged story songs. And I think I sound like an old Elvis, Orbison, Waits Singer-Songwriter. Not too shabby at all! I'm very excited and I am touring to support the release.”

The Huffington Post wrote, “Stylistically, Blane fits in the Americana category. But there's more going on in his music than simply Americana. There's a pop influence in there, along with a 1950's rock vibe that gives his sound a unique signature. It's much different from the usual run-of-the-mill stuff most bands turn out today."

Of Blane's previous recent album “So New York,” Seattle PI wrote, "So New York is grand! The album is full of vintage jazz/pop aromas giving off tantalizing wisps of elusive familiarity similar to the heady music of the '40s and '50s. Steven Blane's voice is deliciously deluxe, full of lush tones."

“So New York," is a collection of original songs about NYC- the city he loves so much!

Prior to that Steven produced an album entitled "Motel Blue." That album was recorded in Nashville and Produced by Blane. It features amazing Rachel Horter on many of the songs, fantabulous Fiddler Ross Holmes, Bass Player Kevin Hailey and Drummer Frank Levatino. “I'm so proud of that album. It's just so real- organic- everything done in one take.”

Prior to that, Steven released four other albums. "I Confess" was produced by White Heart core member Billy Smiley and recorded in Nashville, and his Lake Worth, Florida recorded-in-a-shed album, "The Shed Sessions" received excellent reviews and airplay on Radio Stations across the country.

As a young boy in Jersey City, his grandma stood him on a table at a Knights of Pythias Talent Show. Singing “Delilah,” Tom Jones style, in front of a supportive audience left a profound effect on Steven. Years later, when college was over, he plotted his escape to NYC. Once there, he was cast in a Broadway Show as a guitar playing gypsy. (He still has his Actor's Equity and SAG cards :-)

He lived on 8th Street in the Village in NYC and played gigs at bars. He wrote an Off-Off Broadway Rock Opera and had one of his songs performed on the original "Star Search." Steven decided to ply his trade as a singer-songwriter in Nashville. So he loaded up his blue VW bug (which was missing pieces of it's floor) and headed down the road from NYC. 100 miles later he turned around, struggled as an artist for a few more years, then married the love of his life and became an audio-book producer.
