James Taylor, Jr. Singer from Brighton, MI

My name is James Taylor, Jr. (Yes, that's my real name. No, I'm not related to THAT James Taylor.) (Scroll down for endorsements.) I began singing when I was 2, hit the stage when I was 4, and began writing poetry at 6. From there, I began to write songs (lyrics and melodies) when I was 11/12 and compose or accompany my songs when I was 16. I have been doing this my entire life! I began playing keys when I was 15, teaching myself basics based on the music theory I was learning in high school. I then took functional piano courses in college. I have also taught myself the ukulele and basic acoustic guitar (strumming). I have performed solo and with the bands (the) fundamentalists, DCB, and Remington Taylor. My experience includes everything from opera to rock, Motown to modern pop. I've performed across Michigan and Ohio, including but not limited to: Arts Beats and Eats (2019, 2021), Motor City Pride (2011, 2017, 2018, 2019), Macomb County Pride (2021 - inaugural, 2022), Lansing Pride (2022 - inaugural); as well as bars and venues such as The Token Lounge (Remington Taylor opened for Mike Tramp in 2016), Club Charlie's (Southgate), and Benny's Bierhalle (Millington). In 2012, I was voted Best of Detroit: Live Vocalist by readers of FLAME Magazine. I was also seen briefly on American Idol, season 13.
