About Vendor

Learn more about this vendor for your event.

The Scenic City Soul Revue is a 5 piece band with horns that specializes in Motown, Stax, Memphis soul and dance party music from the 60's to current hits. We differ from the ordinary in that we take great pains to accurately reproduce the sound of the original artists recordings. Your patrons and party guests, our audience, is our first concern. Their enjoyment of the show is our business. Tony Valcarcel – Lead Vocals/Lead Guitar/Keyboards/Percussion Definitive “Blue Eyed Soul”. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, you can hear the streets in his voice, Tony has performed with many groups and ensembles in various genres of music in an array of venues, touring nationwide. He has national television credits, theatre, rock operas, concerts, etc. and began playing on the road at 20 years of age. Tony's vocal range pushes from high tenor to baritone and can cover many styles with roots in rhythm and blues and soul. Guitar style is blues and jazz influenced and Tony has worked with groups ranging from 3 to 10 band mates to audiences in excess of 30,000. The Scenic City Soul Revue is an interesting mix of musicians with many years of individual experience and it will be exciting to watch this father and son project as it unfolds. Phil Kurtz – Saxes/Bass/Vocals Hailing from New Orleans, Phil has played sax since 1985. A graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Phil has played with several local acts such as Tangent, Mesa Rio, and the Hollywood Knights. Phil is a jack of all instruments and master of none. In Scenic City Soul Revue he plays saxes, bass, and vocals. Oh yes, and he has been known to spit hot fire! Tim Hughes – Trumpet/Flugelhorn/Vocals Tim has been playing trumpet since 1972, where he began in junior high school in Hampton, Virginia. He played in the award winning James Madison University Jazz Ensemble from 1979 to 1982. Developing his musical skills with an East Tennessee gospel choir, he now regularly performs with his own jazz group, the Tim Hughes Quartet. Sean Cloud – Drums/Vocals Originally from Southern California, Sean began playing the snare drum over forty years ago in the fifth grade. Within a year, he had his first drum set and taught himself to play along with his favorite records. In the late 70s and 1980s, Sean lived in Louisiana and played for area bands and singer/songwriters such as David Simons and Julieann Banks. He also performed with the Harmon Drew Band which toured the south. During this time, Sean also recorded in studios in Dallas, Texas and Bossier City, Louisiana and then onto Nashville for songwriter showcases. Sean's experience in music has spanned many different styles and venues. His influences came from many great drummers. In his early years, his focus was on rock drummers such as John Bonham, Neal Peart, Ian Paice and Phil Ehart. Later on in life he began listening closely to the great jazz and studio drummers like Buddy Rich, Steve Gadd, Peter Erskine, Joe Morello and Dave Weckl. He attended Buddy Rich concerts and Steve Gadd clinics usually on the front row with his mouth wide open in awe. Sean studied rudimental jazz with Hines Williams, a Shreveport, Louisiana drummer and instructor. Sean moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1991 and has played with many local bands. Sean joined the staff at Music Instruction Studio in November 2005 teaching beginner through advanced drum lessons. Sean is currently teaching privately in his studio and playing with various bands in the Chattanooga area. You can also find him behind the drums during the contemporary services at church.
