For events that simply need background music appropriate for quiet conversation, Panchromatic's duo or trio format fits like a glove. A small ensemble is perfect for setting a fun, festive mood at "Luaus," pool parties, cook-outs, receptions and the like. It's quick and easy to setup, takes up little space, is volume-sensitive, and is affordable on any budget. Panchromatic's duo/trio is the only steeldrum project in the area to use BOTH state-of-the-art background tracks AND live instruments such as flute and marimba to bring its music to life. Like steelpans, these instruments are universally adored, and the effect of seeing them performed live in-person by real musicians should not be underestimated or overlooked in favor of less expensive formats that use only background tracks. Real instruments and human creativity matter!! Further, the duo/trio is happy to contribute to the aesthetic of any tropical-themed party by bringing appropriate dress and decor such as its own "Tikki Shack" (a large thatched umbrella to play under), flower leis, Hawaiian-style floral print shirts and tongue-in-cheek signage and decorations like fishing nets and an artificial parrot. A few visual flourishes (even tacky ones) go a long way!
If the band needs to be the main focus of the event's entertainment, Panchromatic Steel has it covered. Its full band features several steelpan instruments, a dynamic rhythm section featuring live drums and percussion, and a repertoire of danceable material covering both calypso/soca standards and widely-known popular hits by the likes of The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. Be prepared to smile a lot as the band takes over and fills the venue with the joyful sound of island-inspired music that soothes, transports and elates listeners.
In either format (duo/trio or full band), Panchromatic's musicianship is second to none in the Madison area. Its line-up consists of musicians from only the top local/regional groups, including Natty Nation, No Name String Band, Primitive Culture, and Mama Digdown's Brass Band. The band's quality has been recognized with bookings at The Edgewater Hotel (Madison), Art Fair On the Square (Madison), Capital Brewery (Madison), Tyranena Brewing Co (Lake Mills), Great Taste of the Midwest (Madison), The Great Dane (Madison), The Harmony Bar (Madison), The Alchemy (Madison), Bishops Bay Country Club (Middleton), Lake Geneva Yacht Club, and North Shore Country Club (Mequon). The band was also a recipient of a grant from The Greater Madison Jazz Consortium and was a featured performer at its Fall "Strollin'" concert series.
