The New Flamingo Swing Orchestra Swing Band from Santa Cruz, CA

Founded in 1980, the New Flamingo Swing Orchestra plays just right tempos and volume for dancers and listeners who appreciate music from the great American songbook and beyond. The Orchestra was founded by Richard Fenno in Los Angeles in 1980. In 1997, Richard and the Orchestra moved to Austin, Texas. In 2011, Richard returned home to Santa Cruz, California, and set up the current version of the Orchestra with local musicians, some of whom he'd been playing with for more than 40 years. The New Flamingo Swing Orchestra consists of eleven musicians and two singers, Stella D'Oro and Anthony Jones. The number of personnel can be scaled to suit any event, all the way down to an quartet. And we don't limit ourselves to swing music, either, as a casual glance at our tune list will prove. The Orchestra has played a great many places, for a wide variety of parties, receptions and events, including corporate gatherings. Most recently, we were proud to have been selected to provide dance music for the Santa Cruz Cancer Benefit Association at Santa Cruz's home of the big bands, the Cocoanut Grove Ballroom. We are veteran wedding musicians. The Orchestra will work with you, your coordinator, your venue representatives, and your family to make your special day unforgettable. We provide a sound system, and emcee services are available upon request. The Orchestra performs at the All Ages Swing Dance Happy Hours on the second Friday of every month at Bocci's Cellar in Santa Cruz, as well as at the Santa Cruz Elks Lodge on the third Friday of most months.
