Medicine Ball Music represents one of the most exciting and eclectic ensembles performing in the Bay Area with all star entertainers from around the world assembled by founder and bandleader David Sturdevant.  Known for his unique pairing of award winning multi-instrumentalists and first class vocalists, David personally arranges the band to produce a truly unique experience for fans and first timers at events of all kinds.  Rooted in the feel good and danceable rhythms of New Orleans, the Medicine Ball brand of Americana offers a wide array of universally appealing music with an endless repertoire of Classic Rock, Jazz, Swing, Latin, R&B and plenty of Soul.
 
Celebrated for its diverse ensemble groups of 2-10 musicians performing for just about every event imaginable, Medicine Ball Music prides itself on the perfect mix of fun and memorable hits from all over the map.  With performances at live outdoor festivals like Sausalito's Jazz & Blues by the Bay, Sonoma's Valley Of The Moon, Oakland's Temescal Street Fair, the Marin Marathon and others, the ensembles of Medicine Ball Music specialize in creating one of a kind concerts for events of all sizes.  This allows for a seamless transition from big stages like The Italian American Family Festa in San Jose with 25,000 people in attendance to the more intimate stages of popular Bay Area clubs, restaurants and cafes like Yoshi's Oakland, 57th Street Gallery, The Fenix in San Rafael, the Presidio Yacht Club, The Seahorse and even those funny little 'hole in the wall' places like The Sleeping Lady in Fairfax.  They've jazzed up house parties and rocked community events, played holidays and weddings, anniversaries, bon voyages and welcome homes, kept people company with mood music in Napa Valley Wine Country and brought them to their feet for money dances, New Years, Quinceanera's and Bar/Bat Mitzvah's all over Northern California - and beyond!    

Medicine Ball Music is a frequent draw at festivals and cultural events through out Northern California with national and international tours to England, Germany, France, Philippines and Switzerland.  Never one to get comfortable, eager to mix and match on the fly, David changes the lineup as often as the band crosses Bay bridges – one night the band will showcase the blazing saxes of 'Queen of the Alto Sax' Ylonda Nickell and 'West Coast Jazz Musician of the Year' Nancy Wright with Two-time Grammy Award winning violinist Mads Tolling and Billboard Music Award winning Singer Leah Tysse; then it's sax great Richard Howell, "Mr. Clarinet" John Stafford and piano great Charlie 'Fairfax' Hickox with Oakland's own soulful vocalists Terrie Odabi.  Add the incredible vocalist Chelle Jacuqes, keyboardist and vocalist extraordinaire Ms. Janice Maxie Reid and Blues Hall of Fame inductee Larry Vann on drums and sultry vocals and the possibilities are endless!

Medicine Ball Music includes the Swing duo Stafford & Sturdevant "aka Medicine Ball Duo" featuring "Mr. Clarinet" John Stafford, also on Sax, Flute and percussions, with "Doctor" David Sturdevant on guitar, harmonica & vocals; Medicine Ball Triage featuring two time Grammy Award winning violinist Mads Tolling, John Stafford & David Sturdevant; Trio Davide featuring tenor David Miotke, who sings in Italian and English, propelled by his accordion, keyboard and piano talents, David Sturdevant and a guest performer chosen for every show. This is the second time I have hired Medicine Ball Music. They are always a pleasure to work  with and my residents love to dance to their music! I would recommend hiring them for any occasion!

Dave and John from the Medicine Ball Band played as a duo at our Holiday Luncheon on Dec 14, 2016 and our group was totally satisfied with their performance. This is the 3rd or 4th time we've had them at our Holiday Luncheon and we wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. Unfortunately they didn't get to play as much as I would have liked because we had so many speeches and a surprise last minute presentation, but the time they did play was just what we ordered, enjoyable holiday music played on a variety of instruments and they sang some songs too!

Hired a duo from this group to play at our office holiday party, and everyone was quite pleased! Email communication was prompt, showed up nice and early to set up - by the time people started to arrive, they were ready to go! 

Everyone really loved the music - especially the kids. Would book them again, for sure!

The gentlemen of Medicine Ball Music were an absolute delight to work with. They showed up on time, looked very snazzy and professional, and gave a wonderful show for our wine club pick up party. The whole crowd really enjoyed their music. Lots of people took videos and clapped ! These two are much more than just ambient music for an event, they really grab your attention and make you smile.
